Horrid horror. Not for kids. (Or anyone else...)

what parents need to know

Parents need to know that this is a horrid movie (not horror movie). It will scare the pants off kids and make those older howl with laughter at how ridiculous it is. Still, the images are so gruesome and frightening that it's almost guaranteed to induce nightmares.

what families can talk about

  • Families can talk about the difference between made-up creatures and reality. If your teens watch, you can talk about what makes a movie scary. Why do some succeed and some fail?

movie reviews from Rotten Tomatoes®

Top Critic Reviews

Rotten: Anderson has some strengths, but he borrows too much from other movies.

- Bill Muller, Arizona Republic, Monday, August 16, 2004

Fresh: Though sometimes marred by murky lighting and quick-cut incoherence, the action is sudden and sensational.

- Bruce Westbrook, Houston Chronicle, Monday, August 16, 2004

Rotten: The movie had an opportunity to raise some broader philosophical questions about the nature of evil. Does it coil deep within us or come at us with a retractable spear? Anyway, it passed on that.

Well AvP... It's true enough to say the movie had a lot to live up to, the game had given me a hunger for story driven non-stop action that didn't come at the cost or should i say sacrifice of making a movie look like it had simply been engineered for an audience. the film left questions to be answered and a strange sinking suspicion that what I had watched would have been impossible even had the 2 species existed and had clashed in open confrontation. Putting that a side I was simply glad to see the franchise live on, and no one can deny the excitement and tension of simply thinking about these creatures locked in mortal combat. The fight scenes were impressive enough to excuse a possibly "wooden" plot - but at the end of the day I expected nothing more than edge of my seat action. To be fair the acting was impressive seeing as they had a tough story to bring alive - but pats on the back all round from my camp! I want more aliens and I want more predator - I want more AvP!

Paul W.S. Anderson wasn't doing a bad job in this movie, but it's just he didn't come up with a great story so it would make Alien Vs. Predator looks like a suck movie... The battle between Alien and Predator was pretty good, at least I was a little impressed... But because I didn't watch this movie full, so this is the highest score I can give...

A bad movie that almost bears no resemblance to the styles of either franchise, but somehow it becomes a guilty pleasure when you've got an Alien and Predator fighting each other. The story and characters are ridiculous, it almost would have fended off better as a silent movie with only the two respected alien species fighting each other for an hour and a half. Paul W.S. Anderson, try as he may, has no ability to make a rational and effective movie experience.
