Fresh: affable, thoroughly charming little romance that benefits substantially from Amy Irving's compelling performance.

Very sweet movie, powered by the great Yiddish actress Reizi Bozyk. Peter Riegert was never more adorable (you wonder why Izzy would turn him down, he's so cute and sweet, even for decadently famous Jeroen Krabbe). Sylvia Miles makes you laugh with every appearance. A gentle movie soundtracked by a woman's a capella singing group - a woman's story in every way. I fought it but I fell in love with it nevertheless.

Sweet and simple. Riegert's deadpan frankness is spot-on and Irving is better than expected. Based on a play, it translates to the screen with few kinks. One change I didn't care for: the author Izzy is interested in was much better developed in the play, thus strengthening Izzy's divide between him and Sam.
